Intense cold wave continues in UP; 11 more die

Lucknow: Eleven more people died in various parts of Uttar Pradesh due to extreme cold conditions, taking the toll in the state this winter to 58. While four persons each died in Deoria and Barabanki districts, two deaths were reported from Pratapgarh and one from Jaunpur due to cold since yesterday, official sources said here. The state capital Lucknow, which witnessed a heavy fog cover, recorded a minimum temperature of 4.8 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal, and a maximum of 12 deg C, 11 notches below normal. Agra was the coldest place in the state with a low of 0.6 deg C, which was six degrees below normal; whereas in Gorakhpur, the maximum temperature settled at 15.2 degrees C, eight notches below normal. Kanpur too shivered at a maximum temperature of 8.6 deg C, 14 degrees below normal, while Allahabad recorded 15.
