Intel Shows Off Merrifield Chip For Breakthrough Into Smartphones

Meanwhile, rumors about Samsung to incorporate Intel inside its next 10 inch tablet came true, as the South Korean electronic giant officially announced that the upcoming device, Galaxy Tab 3, will be powered by Intel's Atom Z2560 processor, formerly known as "Bay Trail+." The tablet will have an option for either Intel's 6262 3G modem or the XMM 7160 4G LTE solution.

Hopes are high as Intel weighs its success down on Merrifield to take on with ARM processors, the existing leader in Smartphones and tablets arena.

Intel’s recently appointed CEO Brian Krzanich also showed some tablets running Android and Windows on upcoming Atom chips code-named Bay Trail. The models display included Windows tablet with LTE connectivity. The Intel powered Smartphones and tablets so far had only 3G connectivity option, and the launch of Merrifield is a sign that LTE-based Intel devices will come soon.
