India's Tragedy: Old Politicians Never Retire

The country’s political space is free from young energetic leaders to lead in the forefront. One can witness that none of the younger MP’s like Rahul Gandhi, Sachin Pilot, R P N Singh, Jitin Prasada, Shashi Tharoor from the UPA government hold Cabinet ranks but serve simply as probationary ministers of state except Jyotiraditya Scindia. While in the other parts of the world, the Policy makers in their age groups are already running their own countries.

In the capital, bureaucrats like T K A Nair, Naresh Chandra, N N Vohra and Vinod Duggal, to name a few still holds office in their 70’s when they were meant to retire at 60.

Even the high court judges are demanding that they should be allowed to serve till the age of 70 against the retirement age from 62 to 65 given by the Constitution in 2010.

It is high time for a country like India with 50 percent of youth to come up with strong leaders belonging to the younger generation.
