India's Horror: Rape by Juveniles on the Rise

Sangeetha Madhu, child psychologist said, "Most perpetrators of crimes are themselves victims of crimes. It should be seen as a behavioural problem rather than treating them like criminals," reported TOI.

Sangeetha also said that many hormonal changes takes place in the child’s body during that age group so there is a risk factor if such age groups are dropped out of school and the situation will further worsen if they land up with bad company. She further expressed that it was natural for these children to be more aggressive as they are often victims of abuse at home or might be brought up by a single parent or a broken family.

Partially biological and psycho-social impact is the main aspects behind the youth who are into such grievous act like rape.

There is a saying “Charity begins at home”, likewise parents and family are the most inspiring influence to the children so whatever is being depicted in and around the house is what the children do, be it using abusive languages, the eating habit, watching movies, etc. is constantly adopted by the children as stated by Child-rights activist A Devaneyan.

According to Vidya Reddy of Tulir, a centre for preventing child sexual abuse, "The way statistics on crime is collated, compiled and analysed in this country is a joke. If more cases of sexual violence are reported, it shows that awareness level is high and people have confidence in the police," as reported by TOI.
