Indian Teens and Parents divided by the Growing Digital World

The survey shows 56 percent of teens conceal their online whereabouts by the time they turn 16 or 17 years.

Internet has turned the world into a bit obscure and secretive, where children have built a certain connection with the digital world which tends to move them away from their own family and turn aloof. This has increased the space between parental insight and the actual realty related to online activities of Indian teenagers.

About 65 percent of teens surveyed believe that their parents have some idea of what they do online but not the complete picture. 55 percent don’t discuss their online activities at home. 70 percent of surveyed parents trust their teenage children with not using inappropriate sites online and another 70 percent believe that their children tell them about all their online activities.

The discrepancy among the children and parents related to the online activities has created disconnect between them which was once called generation gap, maybe now can be called as the ‘Internet trap’ in certain cases.
