Indian Tech Startups Prefer U.S. And Singapore Based Accelerators
In the America’s incubated ventures can enjoy field trips to companies like Google, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, learning from hundreds of global investors and entrepreneurs in addition to a workspace in Silicon Valley.
Pankaj Jain says that 500 Startups take 5 percent stake in the company in return. For such support Indian ventures which have been mentored by India’s best known accelerators still opt to enter accelerators overseas.
Tushky is one such example. The startup was first incubated at GSF. Interview Street, a skill testing platform was mentored by The Morpheus and then was picked by YCombinator in 2011 and now has customers like Facebook and game-maker Zynga.
InterviewStreet cofounder Harishankar says that investors in India expect startups to first generate a revenue stream while international accelerators offer more support for pre-revenue companies. He says, “The race is very fast there and you compete with some of the best companies. If you are not top of the game, you will not survive.”
