Indian Doctors More Net-Savvy than their U.S. Counterparts

On the other hand it was seen that the percentage of American doctors using search engines is much lower than Indian doctors. The survey said “This is perhaps because U.S. doctors have direct access to relevant websites.” Majority of American institutes and medical associations invest in developing independent websites with certified information, while India has only some original content sites.

Delhi-based endocrinologist Dr Anoop Misra is of the opinion that "Doctors in India are equally or more net-savvy as they learn new medical knowledge mostly from the net because there aren't enough continuing medical education programmes,” as reported by TNN.

Also, another survey had revealed that social media helps for research. It said that around one in four physicians in the U.S. use social media once or multiple times daily to explore medical information and 14 percent do so daily to contribute new information.

Social media was defined as "internet-based applications that allow for the creation and exchange of user-generated content, including social networking, professional online communities, wikis, blogs and microblogging," as reported by IANS.
