Google To Launch 1 Gbps Broadband Next Week
Google Fiber History
Google Fiber was introduced as an experimental project to build a broadband internet network infrastructure that uses fiber-optic communication. Google had planned to build this network way back in February 2010 and the same was expected to be available to users in early 2012.
Google planned to start implementing the high-speed network connectivity on an experimental basis selecting an American community (or some communities) to plant it to. Thousands of municipalities competed with each other to be the home for the new technology.
Out of 1,100 communities applied; on March 30, 2011, Google selected Kansas City as the spot to test the network, running over fiber-optic cables (directly connected to homes)to have a faster internet access. While selecting Kansas City the company’s aim was to find a location where the network could be implemented effectively, and where the network can make an impact on the community and develop partnerships with the local governments and other organizations.
Fiber For Future
Over the past decade, the shift from dial-up to broadband has increased the online video uploads and downloads, online music sales, video conference over web, social networking and countless other innovations. These have tremendously changed the face of communication and commerce. Now the new fiber technology- faster in access, less in price- is expected to contribute more for the development of the communication sector.
