8. Reliance Industries Buys Infotel Broadband
Infotel Communications, provider of Internet and leased lines sold 95 percent of its stake to Reliance Industries for about $1.07billion. Infotel Broadband was the only company to win broadband spectrum in all 22 zones in India. This deal marked the beginning for Reliance into the wireless broadband space. 9. Abbott combines forces in healthcare unit
Abbott Laboratories pharmaceuticals health care company acquired Piramal healthcare unit for about $2.12 billion. Also it will be paying about $400 million per year for next 4 years. With this acquisition, Abbott says, it will become the largest pharmaceuticals company in India. The U.S. healthcare company said the combined sales force would be the largest in the industry in India, and forecast sales of more than $2.5 billion by 2020. 10. Reckitt Benckiser goes shopping
Reckitt acquired Paras Pharma at a price of $726 million to basically strengthen its healthcare business in the country. This was Reckitt's move to establish itself as a strong consumer healthcare player in the fast growing Indian market.
