E-Governance In India Is Yet To Complete The Last Mile
Part of achieving this change seeks the initiative by the government to include more services, reaching more people even in the most remote part of the country and by making the Internet available to each and every citizen. The government apparently is on this track with its 14 mission-mode projects completed out of 31. The delivery capacity of these completed set of projects is using an online platform that allows at least 3,00,000 companies in India to remotely file their financial and shareholder information for regulatory purposes.
It also hosts “Passport Seva”, that allows the citizens to apply for a passport online; nevertheless they still have to stand in queue at the passport office to submit the applications. It would have been easier for the people and for the government if the entire process was completely automated, without the offline part.
Neel Ratan, executive director, eGov, PricewaterhouseCoopers India adds: "Even in a combination of online-offline mode, service delivery is far better compared to five years back."
