NEW DELHI: The volume of e-commerce in India at present is 5.7 billion with an annual growth rate of more than 50 percent and is estimated at $10 billion in the next decade, according to Rajeeva Ratna Shah, Member Secretary, Planning Commission. Speaking at a Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) organized e-Business summit, Shah said if India were to touch the $10 billion mark, it would be imperative to address certain burning issues such as security of data transmission, privacy protection and transaction protection, and improve the legal infrastructure in the country. To look into these issues, he said, the Government had set up five working groups and had constituted an inter-ministerial working group. The Government had also established Information Security Technology Development Council and also created a National Information Security Assurance Framework.
