Divorced Indians Remarrying Their Exes?

Bollywood actor Annu Kapoor’s life is a testament to Kalish’s findings. Kapoor married Anupama(Pami) first in 1992, split, and remarried again in 2008. "Perhaps her parents convinced her that she had made a mistake. We drifted apart. While she remarried in the U.S., I settled down with another partner, but both marriages failed," said Kapoor who now lives with their sons Kavan and Maahir from Pami’s previous marriage and Evaan, whom she gave birth to in August 2008.

In her book, ‘’Lost & Found Lovers’’, Kalish has written about couples who married when they were very young but eventually drifted apart. When they reunited, the relationships were often successful.  Kalish says ‘’Spending their formative years together helps build a love that endures. Many of the men reported that their lost first loves became the standard for all their other romances.’’

Children are often the reason behind why ex-spouses give a failed relationship another try. Hindi filmmaker Sanjay Gupta and his wife Anuradha say their one-year-old son is the reason why they are together again. They were married in 1997 but divorced in 2004. Five years later, they married again. "I had turned him down when he first broached the idea of remarriage, but slowly things changed. I was going through a surgery, and he was there for me," says Anuradha. "Shivaansh keeps us together. We share a better understanding, I think, and make it a point to steer clear of previous mistakes," she says.
