Dining out? Dont forget these etiquette
Bangalore: Do you want to impress your guest? You can do that by following these general dining etiquette. They are obvious pointers of your character. Avoid mobile phones Nowadays it's so common that your friend might think that your mobile phone is stuck to your ear. It's very much deplorable to make calls and e-mails at the table. First of all you should give importance to the person who is sitting in front of you. If at all you are bound to attend an important call, excuse yourself and then leave the table. But you should make sure that you are not spending too much of time over the phone call. How to use Napkin Remember the napkin is given to you for wiping your face or to protect your lap from spills, don't be a slob by leaving it beside your plate. You have to wait until your host unfolds his napkin. If your napkin is large, then fold it as it covers your lap. When you wipe your mouth, gently dab at your mouth. If you have to leave the table in between the meal or after the meal, gently fold the napkin and keep it on the left of your plate, never on the plate. How to deal with Cutlery You should always remember that the fork is on your left and the knife and spoon are set to your right. It is important to hold the spoon and fork horizontally. Do not apply too much of pressure while using it. Balance the fork with the first knuckle of the middle finger and the tip of the index finger, while the thump steadies the handle. If you are following American style, hold the fork to your right hand after cutting; if you are eating the continental style keep the fork in your left hand. Never wave your silverware in your hand while chewing, put it on your plate not on the table. How to serve properly When you serve food always start from left side and remind to remove the dishes from right side. Wine and other beverages are presented and poured from the right. The glasses are placed above and right of the guests plate, pouring from left would force the server to reach in front of the guest. Say 'please' when asking for something. If you are in a restaurant don't forget to say thank you to your server or bus boy after they have removed the used items. Before eating or spreading food transfer butter, spreads and dips to your plate from the serving dish. After all when you are at home, one dining etiquette that you should remember to follow is, always sit with your family at the dining table. These days we tend to mock food down in front of TV and all eat at different times, it is one area we should follow the rules. Sit with your family together as it is a good way to build up a good family ambiance. Go on and enjoy your meals.
