PATNA: Pop singer Daler Mehndi continued to elude police in this Bihar capital as officials admitted that he could still be around but that their two-day search had failed to trace the star, allegedly involved in a visa fraud. The Punjab police, who sought the help of police here, conducted raids at several places here Wednesday to look for Daler. The team had arrived here Tuesday to search for the absconding star who had lived here with his family before his singing career took off. However, a senior official said the team had managed to gather detailed information about Daler's relatives and friends in Patna. Police are also probing young men from the city who travelled abroad in the last two-three years to see if they have any links with the singer. Daler had last visited Patna two years ago. A Patiala court has issued a non-bailable warrant of arrest against Daler in connection with the case. The pop star has been named in a case of visa fraud in which his elder brother, Shamsher, was arrested on October 5 in Patiala. He had been arrested following a complaint by a man named Bakshish Singh who claimed Shamsher had demanded 1.5 million from him to send him abroad. Bakshish claimed he had paid 1.3 million, but he was neither sent abroad with Mehndi's troupe nor received a refund of his money. The wives of both Daler and Shamsher are also facing charges.
