Islamabad: The dengue toll in Pakistan's Punjab province rose to 62 Thursday, authorities said. People are avoiding parks and picnic spots in Lahore, the provincial capital, fearing they may be bitten by mosquito that carries the dengue virus, Xinhua reported. Nearly 8,000 dengue cases were reported in the past two months across the country. The provincial education ministry has made it mandatory for school-children to wear full-sleeve shirts and pants. Education Minister Mujtaba Shuja said the government has completed 80 percent of fumigation drive at educational institutions. The minister warned private schools that they would be closed if they fail to fumigate their premises. Schools have also been asked not to hold sports activities in the evening.
