East Timor, a Southeast Asian country has a lower-middle-income economy. An alarming 37 percent of East Timorese live in extreme poverty, surviving on less than $1.25 a day, while the proportion of severely underweight children has increased from 40 percent to 45 percent over the past decade.
It is the only East Asian entry on the list with a hunger index rating of 29.6. Feeding the nation’s population has proven tricky as the political situation remains heated, but the country is still hopeless whether it can begin to find a remedy for the current problem of starvation from the nation.
