Car Of The Week: BMW 1 Series


Interior:

Even though under the compact segment, the 1 Series’ interior is spacious and stands shoulder to shoulder with diameters of X1, the compact SUV from BMW. Coming to the features, the Base version gets fog lights, automatic headlights, start/stop button, rear parking sensors, a CD player with aux-in compatibility, Eco mode, BMW’s Brake Energy Regeneration, six airbags, ABS, and 16-inch alloy wheels.

The mid variant 118d Sport Line gets add-on package of dual-zone climate control, a sliding front armrest, electric seat adjust with memory, a hands-free facility with USB interface and BMW’s iDrive controller. The top end 118d Sport Plus package flaunts keyless go, rear air-con vents, sunroof and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Engine:

The BMW 1 Series is available in petrol and diesel variants. The diesel variant, 118d is powered by a 2.0-litre TwinPower turbocharged engine that churns out 143 bhp of power and 320 Nm of torque. It is available in three trims- Base, Sport Line and Sport Plus. It has an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 20.58 kmpl.

The petrol variant, 116i is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine that has a maximum power of 136bhp and a peak torque of 220Nm. It has a fuel efficiency of 16.28 kmpl.

Both the engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Price:

The new 1 series is priced between Rs 20.90-29.90 lakh. The three diesel variants- Base, Sport Line and Sport Plus, will cost you 22.9 lakh, 25.9 lakh and 29.9 lakh, respectively, whereas the petrol variant, available in only one trim, will cost you 20.9 lakh.
