Bringing Back The Library Trend: Startups On An Unusual Mission
Kwench
in 2007, four IIM Ahmedanad Aluni decided to start a library called Kwench that focused on delivering books within the corporate sector. Kwench is known as an employee engagement company and has 50 percent of its business coming from its library services. Today, Kwench has grown a clientele of 378 companies in eight cities.
"About half of our clients have their own libraries but we complement them," says co-founder and chief executive Sunder Nookala. Travel portal Cleartrip signed up for Kwench's library service in August 2011 and over half of its 480 employees borrow books from Kwench.
In addition to lending books, Kwench has set up an intra-company platform where it promotes reading through conducting book quizzes. It also out 8-10-page summaries of management books for those who are short of time on reading. "We also do video lessons on management, which are sometimes based on movies," said Nookala.
