Today, the goals of the newspaper industry in India have changed. Many publishers’ concentrate on building their organization and changing advertisers’ expectation than an industry which was just a medium of social service previously.

Moreover, the industry is also trying to compete with other effective mediums like TV, digital and radio.

Even in U.S. the newspaper industry is going through the same stage. In U.S., the newspapers were distributed free of cost for many decades before the introduction of television. What we see today is the evolution from print to television to digital.

Since maximum number of population in America are choosing online media over print, the circulation of newspapers has drastically fallen and the even the revenues has come down to the half in the last decade.

Where do the Indian newspapers stand?

Apparently, the future of Indian newspaper looks gloomy, as the digital media is expected to grow higher than print media.

As the television is reaching to more number of people than print media, the industry already takes away a good share of revenue for the advertisers.

All these are happening when the Indian print media is just beginning to grow.

For many Indian publishers, the digital media is contributing between three and five percent of the total revenue.

But currently the focus is on giving a perfect shape to the Indian economy, and it’s worth a debate as to how many billionaires with the power of money and willingness are to  buy such ailing titles will be there by that time.
