When Windows 8 devices were launched they came with first party apps which were developed by Microsoft. The biggest challenge the company face is to impress the consumers who were well versed with sophisticated iOS and Android apps. But the shipped apps were weak, especially in key categories that are supposed to define the tablet experience: music, photos, and e-mail. Some of those apps felt as if they had been thrown together hastily. For example, the limit of 10 simultaneous tabs with the Metro-style Internet Explorer 10.

Microsoft is now upping its ante for standard apps with Windows 8.1, and we may doubt the users yet have patience left to test the next wave of apps by the company.
