The travesty with Microsoft is that, the company started designing tablet with the idea that the device will be a PC without keyboard a year before iPad launched, but the company is yet to come up with tablet which dishes out good tablet experience.  And when they actually launched one last year, the first noticeable flaw was, the devices only worked in landscape mode. The trouble is, people preferred the portrait mode over landscape mode for many reasons like reading an ebook, and others.

Another problem with the tablets was- the lack of smaller devices. When Windows 8 arrived, people already digested the full-sizes iPad and were eagerly snapping up smaller devices. Now a year later, Windows 8.1 finally supports those devices, and it sounds like they are starting it all over again.
