Bangalore: The domination of the Windows operating system is set to end by 2020 according to the latest report from Kaspersky Lab. This is due to the growing number of alternative platforms that are being made available to the users. However, Kaspersky added that Windows will continue to remain the preferred operating system for business purposes. The diminishing popularity of Windows will also see it experience a lesser number of cyber attacks, unlike sometime back where the platform was a favorite of cyber criminals. The report 'Cybercrime Outlook 2020' says that with the increasing count of new operating systems, the process of threat creation is also set to change. The Kaspersky report predicts that cyber criminals will now apply one of the two approaches: First will see them targeting many OS and individual devices or turn adept in Windows-based attacks on enterprises. There will be a divide among the cyber criminals by 2020 and they will be divided into two groups. One will turn specialist in carrying out cyber attacks on businesses while the second group will be focused on things influencing everyday lives like transport systems and others. The prediction also says that one of the most potent IT threats of today, botnets, will evolve dramatically in this period and would encompass more mobile and Internet-enabled devices. The way communication is carried out will also undergo radical changes including increased data transfer rates and the virtual world getting more closer to reality. For spammers, there will be paradigm shift from targeting desktops to mobile devices, leading to exponential increase in mobile spam.
