Bangalore: The very first update of the Windows Phone 7 (WP7) mobile operating system has rendered some of the phones useless. The update was tagged by Microsoft as a "smaller infrastructure update that will help future updates." However, reports emerged that the WP7 run devices were getting stalled and freezed midway in the update. On its part, Microsoft said that it was looking into the matter that is causing the phones to stop working. A Microsoft spokesperson told internet sources that the company was investigating the WP7 update process and would provide additional information and guidance to users when it is available. The present update did not come with the much anticipated 'copy and paste' feature, which Michael Stroh of Windows Phone Blog said is coming soon. This update is aimed in improving the very process of software update itself. The requirement for the update needed users to connect their phone to the computer and update it by use of either Zune software for PCs or Windows Phone 7 Connector for Macs. The users are then required to follow the set of instructions that appear on opening these softwares. However, despite the guided approach for the update, many users complained of the stalling of the update midway. This was specifically seen in many Samsung Omnia 7 handsets, which reported that the patch 'bricked' the phones.
