U.S. Indian physicians contributes $15,000 to food bank

New Jersey: The annual general body meeting of the Monmouth and Ocean County Chapters of the American Association of Physicians of India Origin which was attended by more than 80 physicians and their spouses and presented a cheque of $15,000 to representatives of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey as part of their ongoing commitment to the local community, reports Desi Talk. The money was raised at the group's annual gala held on Dec. 10 at the Shadowbrook in Shrewsbury, N.J. This is a second year in a row that the group has supported the same charity and has more than doubled their contribution from the last year. The chief guest of the function was Dr. Sunita Kanumury, president-elect of AAPI. She clued-up members about the programs AAPI offers and encouraged younger physicians to get involved and join AAPI in its mission. Linda Keenan, director of development at FoodBank, thanked the group and outlined the services the group provides to fight hunger in the area. The program featured a presentation by Dr. Doug Livornese on 'Medical Complications of Sleep Apnea.' The incoming officers of the group for the coming two years were announced by Dr. Sripad Dhawlikar to mark the end of the evening.
