Top level management lack leadership skills: HR
Bangalore: For the success of any business, the role of top management is essential but it seems that majority of Human Resources professionals have doubts about the leadership qualities possessed by the decision makers of the their respective organizations. According to a research conducted by the Leadership & Management (ILM), 94 percent of HR workers strongly feel that their business leaders need to improvise their leadership qualities through leadership development training. 36 percent of the respondents who had participated in the survey believe that their bosses should understand, inspire and motivate people. While 68 percent of the respondents feel qualification has got no relevance in identifying a good leader, 84 percent of HR staff feel they had doubts about the effectiveness of MBAs in developing the required people management skills. Most of the HR professionals said that, they look freshers who have faced some failure in their career. 24 per cent said the process of 'bouncing back' helps develop new skills and better-prepare candidates to deal with a range of people management issues. "This leadership skills gap is holding UK businesses back. We need to get better at developing these essential people leadership capabilities such as the ability to motivate, alongside the 'harder' technical, professional and commercial skills," said Penny de Valk, ILM Chief Executive.
