The Five Most Famous Vehicles of the Past

Jayne Mansfield’s 1966 Buick Electra 225

Jayne Mansfield was a famous Hollywood actress and her car is also as famous as her, not because of its specifications like a 3 shifter gear box or its 7.0 liter engine but because of the tragedy that had happened. On 29 June 1967, Jayne and her 3 children were being driven to an engagement in a 1966 Buick Electra 225 when they crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer. The car went under the tractor trailer, killing Jayne and her driver instantly but all her three daughters had survived the accident. The car became famous because after this accident had taken place, keeping it in mind the national Highway authority made it compulsory for all the trucks to have a steel bar fitted to the back of the Trucks so that cars don’t slip under the truck. However, the steel bar was named after Jayne Mansfield as the Mansfield’s Bar. Later, the car was kept as a display in the U.S. History Museum in St. Augustine, Florida until the museums’ closing in 1996. What happened to the car after that is a mystery; rumors surrounds that a Jayne Mansfield fan bought it for a hefty sum of money.
