Bangalore: Over 450 chip designers, semiconductor leaders and academicians gathered at the inaugural of Texas Instruments (India)'s 11th Developer Conference (TIDC). In his inaugural keynote, Dr. Biswadip (Bobby) Mitra, Managing Director, Texas Instruments India stated how analog and embedded processing are going to be a huge opportunity going forward. He also highlighted how India as a market presents a huge growth opportunity for Texas Instruments. "Unlike other markets, what's unique about India market is that it is constituted by few large customers and a large number of smaller customers developing innovative applications. Getting closer to them is a big challenge." Today, Texas Instruments has a pan-India footprint of over 1000 customers. "We are still counting," remarks Dr. Mitra. Medical and healthcare, security and video surveillance and energy are some of the growth segments that TI is focusing on currently. TI India is also making use of this platform to showcase state-of-the-art technologies and solutions that will help improve the quality of life and will make technology more affordable. The demo of a 'tiny piece of magic' named Bionic Vision was the key attraction at the inaugural session. Texas Instruments (TI) is enabling this technology to offer vision to visually challenged people. Other interesting demos included: * Total Telepresence that enables the ultimate face-to-face meeting experience, regardless of distance. * DLP Pico Video Projection Kit that can be utilized to create compelling new products using the power of light, for a wide range of emerging markets, from hyper-spectral imaging and structured lighting to optical networking and a variety of UV applications. * Slingbox PRO-HD (High Definition), a nifty device that place-shifts any cable box, DVR, or other television-based media source to any PC in the house, or even anywhere in the world (either to a remote PC, or to a compatible smartphone). Making the earth a better place to livegreener, connected, secure, healthier, and more funis the underlying theme of the TIDC 2008. The event stood out as an ideal platform to understand more about the latest technological developments from Texas Instruments.
