NEW DELHI: Tata Teleservices, one of India's leading telecom services companies, Friday announced the launch of Wi-fi services at the national capital's domestic and international airports.

The agreement between Tata Teleservices and Airport Authority of India (AAI) makes Delhi the first airport to commercially deploy Wi-fi services in India, said a company statement issued here.

As part of the agreement, travellers will have an access to high-speed wire-free Internet at the Delhi's domestic and international airports through the Wi-fi technology.

"Now corporate customers can seamlessly access their company network, including e-mail and calendar when they are out of office," said Naresh Malhan, chief operating officer of Tata Teleservices.

"With the state-of-the-art infrastructure and hi-tech services coupled with competitive pricing, we are quite confident and optimistic that frequent flyers will find our offerings truly outstanding," he said in a statement.

To avail of high-speed wire-free Internet facility at the airport, customers need a Wi-fi compatible laptop or handheld device.

In case the user's laptop is not Wi-fi enabled, they can get the Wi-fi card from cyber attendants at the airport.

"Airports are the place where the world meets," said P.S. Nair, director of the state-run Airport Authority of India, which manages all the airports in the country.

"This initiative will grow by leaps and bounds as more and more travellers and mobile professionals clamour for fast and secure Internet access," he added.
