Sun's Jeya Kumar moves to Mphasis as CEO

Bangalore: MphasiS, a majority owned subsidiary of EDS, has announced the appointment of former Sun Microsystems executive Jeya Kumar, 53, as chief executive officer and a member of the MphasiS board of directors. Michael Coomer, 55, executive vice president, EDS Asia Pacific Region, will replace MphasiS co-founder Jerry Rao, 55, as chairman of the MphasiS board of directors. Rao will become chairman of EDS' Asia Pacific Advisory Board and will retain his current position as vice president and general manager for EDS India Operations. While Coomer's appointment will come to effect immediately, Kumar's appointment is effective from February 1, 2008. Kumar, who will report directly to Coomer, served as senior vice president of Sun's Services Group from 2006 to 2008 and as a member of the company's Executive Management Group. During that period, Kumar was responsible for Sun's $5 billion services business with operations in more than 120 countries. Kumar joined Sun in 1993 and held a succession of increasingly senior management positions, including senior managing director for Japan Sun Services and vice president, Asia Pacific for Sun Services. Before joining Sun, Kumar held positions with Apple Computer, the Australian Productivity Council, the Port of Singapore and National Semiconductor company.
