Substance Abuse on the Rise: Children Addicted To Inhalants

Use of inhalants is found to be more among kids as compared to other drugs like tobacco, alcohol and cannabis, as these drugs are quite difficult to access.

The inhalants on the other hand are cheap and easily available but prove fatal for those addicts who on an average spend 23 days in a month inhaling whiteners, etc. It is an inexpensive method and is used as mood-altering drugs. There is a big risk of brain damage, muscle weakness, depression, headaches, nosebleeds and loss of sense of smell and hearing to the children who are addicted to inhalants.

The survey was conducted across 29 states among 3,964 minors with a history of substance abuse including children in schools, dropouts as well as homeless kids. 4.3 percent of the total respondents were girls. This nationwide survey is on a big scale and is scheduled to release this month.

Substance abuse, conflict at home, history of physical and verbal abuse in the family are some of the factors associated with the rise of drug addiction among minors.
