South contributes 62% of software, services export

NEW DELHI: For the total exports of computer software and services in 2004-05, the southern region is estimated to have accounted for 61.8 percent, according to the Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC).

"The computer software and services export from the southern region have increased to $1085.90 million for the financial year 2004-05 as against $760.79 million in 2003-04.

Commenting on this, ECS, Executive Director. D K Sareen said: "This is an increase of 42.7 percent compared to the previous year, while the total export of computer software and services is only 33.27 percent for 2004-05." According to ESC estimates, the contribution of Karnataka to the southern region stood at 58.18 percent in the period under review, while its contribution to the national total was close to 36 percent.

In the southern Region, Tamil Nadu occupied the second position followed by Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Pondicherry. On national level the northern region occupied the second slot. "Northern region contributed $319.47 million. This works out to 18.18 percent of the total national export of computer software and services," Sareen said.
