BANGALORE: The Bangalore crime branch Thursday busted a gang involved in pirating Microsoft software products and selling them in this tech hub.

Five partners of IT firm MLDS Infotech Ltd were arrested for duplicating a suite of Microsoft products and selling them illegally as "original", deputy commissioner of police (crime) Basavannar told reporters here Thursday.

"On a tip-off from one of their customers, we raided the firm and recovered pirated software goods worth 1.7 million. A team from Microsoft local office, accompanying the raiding party, confirmed the accused were indulging in piracy and were cheating the public by distributing fake products as licensed ones," Basavannar added.

The police are on the lookout for three more accomplices of the accused, who were not present in the firm during the raid.

A case of cheating was registered against the partners, who were later remanded in police custody.
