Silicon Bandwidth Names Ajit Medhekar CEO

SAN JOSE: Silicon Bandwidth, a fabless semiconductor company developing interconnects, said it has appointed Ajit Medhekar as president and CEO. Medhekar previously founded and served as chairman and CEO at Lara Technology, a network search engine firm that was acquired by Cypress Semiconductor. He was also chairman and CEO of empowerTel Networks, and served as vice president of memory products at Alliance Semiconductor. Sunil Kaul, who has been serving as acting CEO, returns to his position as chief operating officer. Melissa Crane, the previous CEO, had left her position to become a partner at VantagePoint Venture Partners. Medhekar will join the board, which also includes Amnon Fisher, entrepreneur-in-residence at VantagePoint Venture Partners; Anant Agrawal, former vice president and general manager of Sun Microsystems; Geoff Mott, a partner at VantagePoint Venture Partners; Norm Kumar, executive director of CIBC Capital Partners; and Jonathan R. Bloch, director of GKM Ventures. Medhekar will guide Silicon Bandwidth as it completes product development over the next few months and launches its technology. The startup is developing interconnects for manufacturing partners developing high-speed backplanes and servers. The company has raised $33 million from CIBC Capital Partners, GKM Ventures, Sharbinger Ventures, Three-Five Systems, and VantagePoint Venture Partners.
