Seven more PSUs to get navratna status

NEW DELHI: The government is looking at including seven more public sector companies for the Navratna (Nine jewels) status. It has already received proposals from Power Finance Corporation, Rural Electrification Corporation, Power Grid, National Hydroelectric Corporation, BSNL, Hindustan Aeronautics and Nalco for grant of the status. “The proposals are currently under consideration,” heavy industry and public enterprises minister Santosh Mohan Dev told the House. It may be noted that currently there are nine navratna companies, which include IOC, ONGC, GAIL, BPCL, HPCL, BHEL, MTNL, NTPC and SAIL. Dev, in response to a question also said that since last month the Board for Reconstruction of Public Sector Enterprises (BRPSE) has received cases for revival of as many as 41 central PSUs, while it has already made its recommendations in respect of 29 companies.
