Scarcity of Beds in Government Hospitals Lead to the Death of an Infant

When Sunil took the child to Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narain Hospital, the doctor gave her medicine. Since they did not have enough beds in the nursery, they suggested him to take the infant to AIIMS hospital.

The AIIMS hospital was crowded with media persons and political leaders, as they were waiting to know the health condition of Sonia Gandhi. The infant was refused admissions by the doctors and Singh had to return to LNJP; meanwhile the child passed away.

It is not just 1 or 2 hospitals that closed their eyes towards this small baby, but 5! This issue has raised questions about the negligence shown by hospitals in the case of a common man’s life. According to a report in the Indian Express, “India on an average has one government hospital bed for every 879 people.”

Large numbers of criticisms are being showered against Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit over the infant death issue.
