Bangalore: The U.S. military is vacating the aureate palaces of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein but is taking away his stainless steel prison toilet. As U.S. forces are withdrawing completely from Iraq, they are handing over the Victory Base (a U.S. complex near Baghdad airport) back to the Iraq government. However, Saddam's prison cell's toilet has been taken by the Americans along with a steel door and other artifacts of the war which are to be installed in the military police museum in the U.S. "We're not taking anything that the Iraqis had. We are only taking stuff that we put in, we utilized, and when we didn't need it any more, we took it home," Lieutenant Colonel Jerry Brooks was quoted saying to Reuters. The commode and the steel door have been removed from the cell where Saddam spent two years before his execution in 2006. The door was the entrance to the cell and weighs about 500 pounds. The cell door and toilet were hidden in a derelict villa on the base. The Ft. Wood deputy public affairs officer Tiffany Wood said the museum will not be taking the ownership of Saddam's toilet. He said "We don't have a reason, really when it comes down to it. We re going to display the artifacts that we re receiving," abcnews.com reported. The artifacts will be displayed at the museum. "It's another way to tell the story of what our soldiers are doing; it shows the significant part of history that they are doing" said Woods. He also added "it just helps explain what their role was and what it is for the future. The artifacts are a natural fit for the museum, since Fort Leonard Wood is where all military police soldiers are trained," Wood said.
