MUMBAI: Underworld gangster Abu Salem who was extradited from Portugal has confessed to role in supplying arms and ammunitions used in serial blasts in Mumbai in 1993 that killed over 250 people. Salem, in his third day of captivity Sunday told the Central Bureau of Investigation that he had indeed supplied and handled arms used during the blasts, aimed at retaliation after the Babri mosque demolition in 1992. However though, the CBI has neither confirmed nor denied that Salem had confessed. The CBI questioning is in line with earlier indications that the agency would focus on the serial blasts case, and also a pointer that the nine remaining days of Salem’s remand might see the gangster coming under close and intense grilling by his handlers. Over 30 criminal cases have been registered against Salem ranging from blasts to murdering music baron Gulshan Kumar and builder Pradeep Jain, attacks on Bollywood personalities and extortion of money.
