Kolkata: The social upheaval at Nandigram in West Bengal during the anti-land acquisition movement that changed the electoral script of the state will be the premise of a new movie called "Choker Pani". Based on Manik Mondal's novel, the 90-minute movie shows the social upheaval and the real life characters of Nandigram, who were caught in the turmoil from March 14 to Nov 10 in 2007. Made in Bengali, the film revolves round the human emotions and several references to Nandigram which turned into slaughterhouse irrespective of political, religious creeds for the people of Nandigram. "To me it is important that our approach to this subject, which is fit for academic discourse, is non-judgemental but a true reflection on all the waning social norms and relationships that actually happened there," said Manik Mondal, the writer of the novel on which the film is based. It is being directed by Shyamal Karmakar and will hit the screens after the elections get over in the state -- the six-phase assembly poll will be held from April 18 to May 10. "The film will have characters of Malati Jana, Aleya Bibi, Akhroza Bibi who were tortured or raped in reality and they will be seen essaying their roles in real life," said Karmakar.
