BANGALORE: Network Appliance Inc today said it plans to spend $150 million to expand its operations in India in the next couple of years.

NetApp also opened its new development center facility in Bangalore, the only one outside of the U.S., with a capacity to seat up to 750 people.
“We will invest $150 million in the next couple of years or possibly more,” NetApp Inc co-founder and Executive Vice-President Dave Hitz said. The new investment would be on capital equipment, employees and other resources.

The new facility would have the option to take the seating capacity to 1,200 people, he said, adding, “We are growing very quickly in India.”

He said the company hoped to reach the target of 750 people in the "next couple of years".

NetApp, which set up its development centre in Bangalore in 2003, was growing at 30 percent a year.

“Our growth rate in India is the fastest of any of our operations," he said. The Bangalore center would be a strategic center for research and product development, creating technologies that enable the largest enterprises to store, move and manage data more effectively, Shekar Nair, President, NetApp India, said.

NetApp's new facility also houses one of the country's four global customer support centers, in addition to other global operations such as partner and product engineering, product management, partner certification and global IT infrastructure support.
