Most Popular Beer Brands in 2012

Guinness:

Guinness makes it on the list too. It is a popular Irish dry stout that originated in the brewery of Arthur Guinness at Dublin. It is one of the most successful beer brands worldwide and is brewed in almost 60 countries and is available in over 100.  Guinness has 4.2 percent abv (Alcohol by Volume). 850 million litres of it is sold annually. A unique feature of the beverage is the burnt flavor that is derived from roasted unmalted barley, although this is a relatively modern development. For several years a portion of aged brew was blended with freshly brewed product to give a sharp lactic flavor. The beer is popular with Irish people both in Ireland and abroad. Despite a decline in consumption since 2001, it is still the best-selling alcoholic drink in Ireland where Guinness & Co. makes almost €2 billion per annum.

Carlsberg:

Carlsberg makes it to the list as well. It is a Danish brewing company founded by J. C. Jacobsen in 1847. The company's main brand is Carlsberg Beer, but it also brews Tuborg and local beers as well.  It is the primary beer seller in Russia with about 40 percent market share.  In 2009 Carlsberg was the fourth largest brewery group in the world employing around 45,000 people. It is mostly popular in Denmark and this beverage contains 3-4 percent abv. It is considered to be one of the finest beers in the beer market.
