Microsoft Internet explorer shares continues to decline
Bangalore: The market share data in April showed that both Microsoft Internet Explorer and Microsoft's Firefox are witnessing a decline in its shares. According to Net Applications, a firm which tracks internet metrics declared that global usage for all versions of Internet explorer declined from 55.92 percent to 55.11 percent. And despite the launch of Firefox 4 overall usage of Firefox declined from 21.8 percent in March of 2011 to 21.6 percent. Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 which was released in the month of March generated positive response but could not save the declining browser market of Microsoft. Microsoft lost its hold and monopoly ever since the emergence of various competitors in the browser market. One of the main reasons for Microsoft struggle in retaining the top position is the success of Google chrome and Apple's Safari. The features provided by Apple and Google are very attractive in comparison to Microsoft's internet Explorer. Unlike Microsoft they keep upgrading their browser with innovative features and interesting ways to browse. Moreover young generation has developed a flare for Google and Apple's browser and Internet Explorer is tagged more as a boring and uninteresting version of browsing. The sales of Windows 7 and its Office Suite are the only products which has kept Microsoft shares alive. Microsoft sold 350 million licenses of Microsoft Windows 7 in last 18 months. Google's chrome share jumped from 11.57 percent in March 2011 to 11.94 percent in April and Apple Safari recorded an increase from 6.61 percent in March to 7.15 percent in April of 2011. In order to come out from this crisis Microsoft has strategized new plans. It is currently in the process of moving Windows 7 users over to Internet Explorer 9. The process will start in June 2011.
