THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala's premier IT company NeST Group has opened an offshore software development centre to cater exclusively to the needs of Japan's Hitachi Ltd.

This is the first facility of its kind set up in Kerala to provide software development services to a Fortune 500 multinational corporation. The centre is located in the heart of this state capital and can house 200 software professionals.

Appreciating Hitachi's confidence in the NeST Group, managing director N. Jehangir said the new centre would help expand his firm's eight-year-old relationship with Hitachi.

"This centre is expected to provide dedicated software development facilities with modern infrastructure and a team of software professionals exclusively catering to the diverse software needs of a single customer," said Jehangir.

"It will benefit both the partners."

The objective of setting up this centre is to maintain and nurture a dedicated team of qualified software professionals for use by Hitachi.

NeST, which has offices worldwide, has been providing advanced software services to various divisions of Hitachi in niche areas like process control, instrumentation, healthcare and security.

The relationship between NeST and Hitachi has grown since 1996, and a large pool of NeST engineers is currently working on several projects for Hitachi.

Jehangir said NeST's vast experience in the latest technologies and SEI-CMMI standards will be made available to Hitachi. The new centre will have a secured development environment adhering to ISO-15408 standards, specifically suited for the development of security products.

The $100 million NeST Group has established multiple software development centres at the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Bangalore with over 500 professionals working in diverse areas like embedded systems, multimedia, broadband technologies and business applications.

The firm has a client base in the U.S., Europe, Middle East, Australia and Japan. It has overseas offices in the U.S., Canada, Britain, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Japan.

NeST employs over 3000 people globally and provides services to other major customers like Toshiba, HP and Lucent.
