GL Communications rolls out enhanced Ethernet testing software
Bangalore: GL Communications has announced the release of enhanced PacketCheck, a testing software that supports RTD (Round Trip Delay) and loopback at all levels, including Ethernet frames and IP/UDP (User Datagram Protocol) packets, and a simple to use graphical user interface (GUI). Vijay Kulkarni, CEO of GL Communications claimed, "GL's enhanced PacketCheck is a PC based Ethernet / IP BERT (Bit-Error-Rate-Testing) and Throughput test tool that is easy to use. It can be used as a general purpose network performance analysis tool for 10Mbps, 100Mbps and one Gbps LANs and WANs". Ethernet packets over the network are transmitted and received through the PC's Network Interface Card (NIC). Throughputs of up to 500 Mbps can be easily tested with this software. PacketCheck allows monitoring of end to end performance such as total packets, packet loss, out of sequence packets, pattern sync status and protocol statistics. It can operate on any of the three layers - Layer 2 (Data Link), Layer 3 (Network), and Layer 4 (Transport) of the OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) reference model. The enhancements introduced include the fact that PacketCheck can now operate in loopback mode in addition to its simultaneous Tx/Rx modes. It can perform loopback at the Ethernet, IP and UDP levels. Also it now calculates the average Round Trip Delay (the total time taken for a packet to travel to the remote end and back to the point of origin). PacketCheck can also be operated through command line in addition to the simple to use GUI.
