Shimla: Trade between Israel and India is set to double in the next couple of years and touch $5 billion, a top official of the Israeli government said here Wednesday.

"Last year bilateral trade touched an all-time high of $2.7 billion mainly in the field of diamonds, agricultural technology, high-tech equipment, petrochemicals and textiles," said Lior Weintraub, spokesman of the Israeli Embassy in India.

Referring to the prospects of business investment in Himachal Pradesh, he said Israeli companies were exploring possibilities of investments in several fields including tourism, agri-sector and hydel power in the hill state.

"The Israeli Ambassador (David Danieli) was here recently and soon after this visit of mine our Economic Attache (head of trade) will be visiting Shimla this year is proof that we mean business," said Weintraub.

"Himachal already happens to be the favourite destination with Israeli tourists. Majority of the 40,000 Israelis visiting India every year also visit Himachal," he said.
