BANGALORE:India’s IT and ITeS industry is on track to reach $50 billion in exports by 2009, according to National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) President Kiran Karnik. “This year we expect a growth of 30-32 percent translating to about $22.3 billion compared to last years $17.2 billion. If we have growth at the same rate for the next three years, we will end 2009 at $50 billion of IT exports,” he said after announcing the launch of a quality certification program for independent software vendors (ISVs) in India by Nasscom and Microsoft India. On the amendments to the IT Act, Karnik said that the export committee has finalized its recommendation on amendments. “The report is with the ministry now,” he added. The amendments to the IT Act will be mainly in the areas of data protection, responsibility of intermediaries like telecom providers and enforcement etc.
