Hyderabad: Hyderabad will host a three-day national conference and workshop on maximum usability of technology, starting Monday.

USID 2007, a national event on "living in a digital world - challenges for designers and engineers" is being organised by USID (Usable Software Interface Design) Foundation at Hyderabad International Convention Centre.

USID Foundation was recently floated by a group of designers and engineers who came together to draw attention of the society and the industry, specifically the IT, towards the complexities of interacting with computers, the usability and usefulness of products and services and the benefits of the technological advancement to the society.

According to Raman Saxena, coordinator of USID 2007, many eminent personalities of the industry and subject experts will speak at the conference. They include M.P. Ranjan, principle designer and faculty, National Institute of Design (NID)-Ahmedabad, Kentaro Toyama, assistant managing director of Microsoft Research India and Lalitesh Katragadda, head, Google India.

About 150 delegates comprising students, researchers, professionals, specialists, academicians, design and engineering professionals will participate in the meet.

"We are unable to utilise technology to its fullest possibilities. For instance, many mobile phones offer the most advanced features. But how many of us know those and use them? Those features can't be used unless they are usable," Saxena said.

"Human lives would be much simpler and easier if the interaction between the user and the technology is made simpler and usable too. Usable technology makes a difference to everyone, everywhere around the world. Usability is a key area that needs prime focus to harness the benefits of technology for people and development of society," he said.
