BANGALORE: Indian technical population is expected to play a vital role in HP Services’ road map for the future. Services is a $13-billion business for HP employing 60,000 people globally. On a cumulative basis, HP Services employees in India number over 10,000. Vice-President and Chief Technology Officer of Hewlett Packard services business Tony Redmond told ET that the kind of technical work done at HP India and Digital GlobalSoft (DGS), where HP is a major investor, is phenomenal. Mr Redmond said that research by HP Labs India on language technology, speech communication interfaces for computers and low-cost computing devices will help HP in many other developing markets across the globe. The diversity in literacy and language makes India an ideal test bed, said Mr Redmond. Mr Redmond said there is an urgent need to make computing and communication devices operate in a radically simple manner to end numerous technology challenges that users now face. Similar such technology complexities, he said, can be erased by technology strengths that India offers. “We want our Indian entities to demonstrate leadership in innovation,” he said. HP which aims to be recognised as the world’s best technology company has chosen rich media, mobility, security and manageability as its prime area of focus. Mr Redmond said that the goal is not compete with the likes of IBM Global Services, a recognised name in the global services space. In India too, HP is not racing to increase headcount and create a vast pool of low-cost jobs, he said.
