Kolkata: Hewlett Packard (HP) and Bharti are coming together to offer cloud services for small time application developers and small and medium businesses (SMBs) in tier II and III cities. "HP is in talks with a host of telecom companies for offering similar services . Talks with Bharti is at an advanced stage and an announcement to this effect is expected in the next couple of months," said Santanu Ghose, Country Head for infrastructure software and blades division at HP India. The step taken by HP and Bharti will help small developers and SMBs in healthcare, hotels, textiles and the co-operative sector. SMBs can now use applications on a subscription basis. The bill collection network of Bharti can be used to receive payments from users in tier II and tier III cities. According to HP, 60 percent of the applications used by SMBs will be shared in the next few years and for the healthcare and hotel industry, the proportion could be as high as 80 percent. "HP and Bharti Enterprises are currently working out the modalities of the deal. While HP will be offering its servers, infrastructure and equipment to set up a data centre that will support cloud services on a pay-per-use or subscription basis, Bharti Enterprises, will offer its optical fibre network and bandwidth to deliver the service to end users," said Ghose. Indian cloud computing market is expected to top $1.08 billion by 2015, from the current $110 million, according to Zinnov Management Consulting.
