Mountain View: Eying to break into the tablet market ruled by Apple, Google showcased its Honeycomb software, the newest version of its popular operating system Android designed to run on tablets. The search giant also unveiled a web-based version of the Android app store, known as the Android Market Web Store. At a media event at Google's Mountain View, California headquarter, members of the Android team including Google engineering VP Andy Rubin, Engineering Director Chris Yerga and Hugo Barra, Director of Product Management for mobile demonstrated the new OS that allows for a faster interface with built-in video conferencing. Notably, the event also marked the introduction of Android Market feature called Buyer's Currency - a new way for developers to make money by building applications that run on Android. Focusing on the graphic performance, Google has added a 3D graphics engine to the new version. It also refined the camera user interface and included a time-lapse video recording feature. The web version of Google's applications store for Android devices has been started and developers can now sell their software applications to a larger audience. Android 3.0 also introduces a new feature called Google Fragments that can run inside Gmail. The arrival of Honeycomb is up to the vendors as the software is expected with the Motorola Xoom and LG G-Slate. Motorola Xoom is expected to arrive by the end of March while T-Mobile and LG said the G-Slate will be available by this spring. At the conclusion of the event, Google revealed that the Honeycomb code is ready and the developers were provided with a software-development kit.
