Wider screen @ click of a button: Murthy to mobile makers
Hyderabad: N.R. Narayana Murthy, Chief Mentor of Infosys, said on Wednesday that mobiles could become a stronger competitor to newspapers if the real estate on their screens could be larger. "If let's say with the press of a button, the screen on a mobile handset enlarges to some six inches x eight inches, it could become a platform for viewing of news. Again on the click of the button, the screen should contract to its original size," he told a gathering at the 62nd World Newspaper Congress here. He felt that today the real estate size on mobile screens was too small. "A thinking on these lines, I am told, is going on. Once this happens, the mobile could become a more powerful medium," he said. Murthy also felt that use of TV bandwidth for Internet could bring down the cost of broadband significantly. With today's youth increasingly communicating with each other on the Net, is the younger generation getting lonelier? In reply to this query, Murthy said, "I often ask this question to today's youngsters. They say they derive as much pleasure communication with each other on Facebooks and Twitters as we used to derive in face-to-face interaction. I am now 63 and I prefer face-to-face interaction with my friends."
